Welcome to Ilkley & District Motor Club's Website

Coronavirus Update

Coronavirus has not gone away as many hoped it would and we are all having to get used to the ‘new normal’. For us as a Motor Club this has meant changing the way we meet and the way we communicate with our members. Virtual meetings have become the norm and we have continued to meet as a committee on the 1st Wednesday of each month by way of Zoom. Initially this was quite hard to establish and was very different to meeting in normal circumstances. However it has proved very successful and the club continues to move forward. In addition, a Website Committee has been established and the ‘Futures’ Committee continues to meet virtually in order to develop both these important areas. MSUK has provided Covid Guidance and since the beginning of July events at every level have started re- emerging. This is a hopeful sign and our Car Competitions Committee are actively looking at possible future events. Our newsletter has continued to be published during the crisis and I hope that has been something members have found to be informative and reassuring as we continue to function as a Club.

ITV's The Life And Times Of Captain Sir Tom

ITV - Thu 13 Aug 2020 - 9.15pm

Sir Tom

"We'll tell some secrets - not all of them." - Captain Sir Tom Moore

This new documentary features Captain Sir Tom Moore telling for the first time his life story and the key events in his 100 years - from his beginnings in Yorkshire to raising more than £30 million for the NHS.

With unprecedented access to Captain Sir Tom and his family, this explores the man behind the medals and hears the NHS fund-raiser's unique brand of wisdom - created by being an eye-witness to a century of British history.

He speaks about his young life, and the impact his grandfather, father, and his uncle had while he was growing up near Keighley.

With the approaching 75th anniversary of VJ Day on 15 August, the programme tells how Captain Sir Tom headed off to the frontline of the Second World War in India, and then in the Burma campaign.

Captain Sir Tom also speaks about his business career after the war, the blossoming of his relationship with his wife Pamela, and social developments in Britain during his century on earth.

Ilkley and District Motor club is thought to feature in relation to Captain Sir Tom's uncle, Billy Moore, and his involvement in the club.
